Richard (Dick)'s Story
Life
Attended college at U of Redlands and worked as a tech writer for Lockheed, then moved to Chicago, went into public relations, and had a career as a writer of marketing materials for a WhoÂs Who of biz in the Midwest, on the agency side (Burson-Marsteller PR), as a freelance, and on the client side (Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company). For a time I wrote, produced and directed marketing and educational films and videotapes. In PR, my specialty was writing and producing publications in support of usually industrial marketing efforts. Have kept active in the arts, acting, producing and directing in the theater, singing, and performing as an instrumentalist (recorder) with Renaissance and Baroque music groups throughout the Midwest. I also cultivated my skills of photography, and have had several showings of my work in the Chicago area. My work has appeared in industrial magazines around the world. Two marriages (Mariam Tritt, 1961-80; Michel...Expand for more
le Strater, 1986-95), six children (Jonathan, Ted, Susannah, Luke, Sarah, Katie), and nine grandchildren. Layman in the Episcopal Church (chorister, cantor, vestryman, lay eucharistic minister, lector). As a small boy, my father called me ÂDoc, because of my fondness for Bugs Bunny (Bugs and I were both born in 1940), and my grandkids call me Doc today. My last job in PR was for GLD&D at the time when the firm was blamed for causing the Chicago Flood of 1992, which was the supreme challenge of my career, handled with success. The company went through a sequence of down-sizing , and I left it in 1994. Having become a desktop publisher in my years at GLD&D, I decided to try my luck as a writer/graphic designer/photographer, and worked in that capacity for a design firm for five years. Last year GLD&D invited me to return, this time as its sole graphics engineer, and I am happily at work in that capacity now. And love it. Richard (ÂDocÂ) Adams
